Job summary

Brightsmith is seeking a Lab Manager to own the day-to-day running of the lab where energy storage development happens. You will ensure a safe, organised environment and work hands-on with experiments, test set-ups and builds when needed.

You’ll manage lab safety, COSHH, risk assessments and SOPs, handle hazardous materials, and build inventory and equipment systems while supporting engineers and scientists as the company scales.

Qualifications

• Experience with laboratory safety, COSHH, risk assessments and SOPs.
• Experience around chemicals, electrochemistry, batteries, fuel cells, electrolysers or test rigs.
• Willingness to own and improve lab operations as the company scales.

Responsibilities

• Taking ownership of the day-to-day running of the laboratory and test areas.
• Managing lab H&S, COSHH, risk assessments, SOPs and safe systems of work.
• Handling chemicals and hazardous materials safely and disposal correctly.
• Building systems around inventory, stock, purchasing and equipment.
• Keeping equipment maintained, calibrated, serviced and ready to use.
• Supporting test rigs, experimental set-ups and test builds.
• Preparing materials, samples and electrolytes for testing.
• Supporting engineers and scientists with experiments and longer-duration tests.
• Liaising with suppliers, contractors, calibration providers and service teams.
• Developing processes and systems the lab will need as the company scales.
