Job summary

Step Teachers Ltd. is seeking a dedicated KS4 SEND Teaching Assistant to join a full-time team from September 2026, on a temporary-to-permanent basis.

You will support pupils with additional needs in a Key Stage 4 setting, helping them access learning, develop independence, and prepare for adulthood outcomes. Ideal candidates will have experience with SEND, a calm and patient approach, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with SEND, ideally within Key Stage 4
• Understanding of inclusive practice and adolescent development
• Calm, patient, and consistent approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Flexible and responsive to individual needs
• Willingness to begin on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEND within a Key Stage 4 classroom environment
• Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum
• Assist with differentiated learning activities tailored to individual needs
• Support pupils' social, emotional, and behavioural development
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning
• Work closely with class teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams to follow individual support plans
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times
• Encourage independence, confidence, and preparation for post-16 pathways
• Observe and share information regarding pupil progress and well-being
• Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times
