Job summary

Coventry City Council is seeking a KS2 Cover Supervisor / HLTA to provide high-quality classroom cover across Years 3–6 at Whitley Abbey Primary School in Coventry. The role includes planned cover for PPA and management sessions, with flexibility to support short-term teacher absence.

You will work to maintain routines, support learning, and contribute to a calm, positive classroom environment, including pupils with SEND. This is a fixed-term, full-time position with safeguarding checks in place.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as a KS2 Cover Supervisor / HLTA, providing high-quality classroom cover across Years 3-6. A key part of the role will be providing planned cover for PPA and managment sessions, alongside supporting the school with short-term teacher absence when required.

The successful candidate will:

• Provide high-quality whole-class cover across KS2, maintaining established routines, expectations and standards
• Provide planned cover for teachers during plannedsessions across the school.
• Deliver learning that has been planned by the class teacher or year-group team, adapting delivery appropriately to meet pupils' needs.
• Provide short-term cover for teacher absence when required, which may include responding flexibly to cover needs on the day.
• Establish positive relationships with pupils and create a calm, purposeful learning environment.
• Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement, presentation and learning.
• Follow the school's curriculum, behaviour and safeguarding expectations consistently.
• Work closely with teachers and leaders to ensure effective communication and continuity of learning.
• Support pupils with a range of needs, including pupils with SEND and those who may require additional scaffolding or challenge.
• Provide appropriate feedback to class teachers following cover sessions.
• Contribute positively to the wider life of Whitley Abbey and model our expectation that we are proud and purposeful in everything we do.
