Job summary

Whitley Abbey Primary School in Coventry is seeking a KS2 Cover Supervisor / HLTA to provide high-quality classroom cover across Years 3–6. The role includes planning cover for PPA sessions and supporting short-term teacher absence with flexible, responsive learning delivery.

The successful candidate will maintain routines, support pupils with diverse needs and work closely with staff to ensure continuity of learning across KS2.

Qualifications

• Has experience of successfully supporting learning in a primary school.
• Is confident in managing a class and delivering learning to groups of pupils.
• Has high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement.
• Has a good understanding of the KS2 curriculum.
• Is organised, flexible and able to respond positively when circumstances change.
• Can quickly establish positive relationships with pupils across different classes and year groups.
• Works effectively as part of a team and communicates well with teachers and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality whole-class cover across KS2, maintaining established routines, expectations and standards.
• Provide planned cover for teachers during planning sessions across the school.
• Deliver learning that has been planned by the class teacher or year-group team, adapting delivery appropriately to meet pupils' needs.
• Provide short-term cover for teacher absence when required, which may include responding flexibly to cover needs on the day.
• Establish positive relationships with pupils and create a calm, purposeful learning environment.
• Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and learning.
• Follow the school's curriculum, behaviour and safeguarding expectations consistently.
• Work closely with teachers and leaders to ensure effective communication and continuity of learning.
• Support pupils with a range of needs, including pupils with SEND and those who may require additional scaffolding or challenge.
• Provide appropriate feedback to class teachers following cover sessions.
• Contribute positively to the wider life of Whitley Abbey and model our expectation that we are proud and purposeful in everything we do.
