Job summary

Coventry City Council is seeking a KS2 Cover Supervisor / HLTA to provide high-quality classroom cover across Years 3–6 at Whitley Abbey Primary School in Coventry. The role includes planned cover for PPA and management sessions, with flexibility to support short-term teacher absence.

You will work to maintain routines, support learning, and contribute to a calm, positive classroom environment, including pupils with SEND. This is a fixed-term, full-time position with safeguarding checks in place.

• Experience of supporting learning in a primary school.
• Confident in managing a class and delivering learning to groups.
• High expectations for pupil behaviour and achievement.
• Good understanding of the KS2 curriculum.
• Organised, flexible and responsive to change.
• Able to establish positive relationships with pupils across classes.
• Works well in a team and communicates clearly with teachers and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality whole-class cover across KS2 (Years 3–6).
• Provide planned cover for teachers during PPA and management sessions.
• Deliver learning as prepared by the class teacher, adapting as needed.
• Provide short-term cover for teacher absence as required.
• Establish positive relationships and a calm, purposeful learning environment.
• Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and learning.
• Follow the school curriculum, safeguarding expectations and policies.
• Support pupils with SEND and those needing additional scaffolding or challenge.
• Provide feedback to class teachers after cover sessions.
• Contribute to the wider life of Whitley Abbey and model our values.
