Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment is seeking a Primary SEN Teacher for a small KS1 class at an independent special school in Burnley, Lancashire. The role focuses on play-based and sensory approaches for pupils with complex needs and non-verbal communication requirements.

The position runs full-time, term-time only, with a temp-to-perm contract and daily rates of £180–£250. EYFS/KS1 experience and a nurturing, patient approach are essential, with a commitment to safeguarding and personal care as needed.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status is required.
• Experience teaching EYFS or KS1.
• Experience with SEN, including non-verbal pupils.
• Willingness to support pupils with personal care.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small KS1 class through structured play and sensory learning.
• Use alternative and augmentative communication with non-verbal pupils.
• Carry out personal care in a dignified way according to each pupil's plan.
• Guide and support the class staff throughout the day.
• Measure small-step progress and keep families informed.
• Supervise pupils during breaks and educational visits.
