Job summary

Derby City Council’s Alvaston Infant and Nursery School in Derby is seeking an Apprentice Teaching Assistant (SEND) to work with the Headteacher and inclusion team. You will support children with SEND, contribute to high standards of education, and assist with targeted support.

The role is classroom based for around 4 days per week, with some days requiring early starts (7:30am) and late finishes (6pm). A permanent contract is offered alongside safeguarding and inclusion responsibilities.

Location: Alvaston Infant and Nursery School, Derby
Hours: Apprentice TA 37 hrs per week – will be required to be flexible and work from 7:30am and until 6pm, on some days, as agreed with the school, depending on the school’s needs
Contract type: Permanent

Alvaston Infant and Nursery School wishes to appoint an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, who will work closely with the Headteacher, inclusion team and SENDcos to support children with SEND and/or disabilities. This is a unique role to the school, and we are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs. The successful candidate with be relentless with the pursuit to improve the experiences and outcomes for SEND children. They will be committed to ensuring that children with SEND receive the highest standards of education and that adaptations are made for them, where appropriate. They will build the strongest of relationships within school and will become a champion for our children. This role will be classroom based for around 4 days per week, to further children’s learning and to fulfil their apprenticeship aims. The rest of the time will be dedicated to targeted support for individual or groups of children. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide support from 7:30am and up until 6pm, on some days. Flexibility from the individual will be key. At our school, we are pro inclusion and everyone is an inclusion champion. However, the successful post holder will be involved in half termly inclusion meetings, with our inclusion leads.
