Job summary

Hotwells Primary School in Bristol seeks a dedicated Key Stage 1 Learning Support Assistant to provide targeted classroom support and interventions in the morning, helping pupils engage and progress. This is a KS1-focused role delivering tailored learning activities and phonics support as part of a small, friendly team.

The role requires KS1 experience, the confidence to lead occasional whole-class cover, and a collaborative approach to support pupils with SEND within an inclusive, warm school

Qualifications

• Essential: Direct, proven experience working within Key Stage 1 (KS1) settings.
• Essential: A clear understanding of primary education and child development in early years/KS1.
• Essential: Confidence and capability to lead and manage occasional whole class cover when required.
• Desirable: Experience delivering structured phonics interventions, preferably using the Unlocking Letters and Sounds scheme.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality support within Key Stage 1 classrooms to boost pupil engagement and academic attainment.
• Deliver targeted learning and phonics intervention sessions to small groups and individual pupils under guidance from the Class Teacher and SENDCo.
• Assist in monitoring and recording pupil progress, contributing to lesson feedback and assessment activities.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment, maintaining high standards of pupil engagement and well-being.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND, working alongside teaching staff to deliver learning activities.
• Assist teachers in the plan, do, review cycle, including record keeping and resource preparation.
• Help implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies and record incidents on CPOMs.
• Monitor pupil progress, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to EHCPs and SEND Support Plans.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times.
