Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Bristol is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic primary school in Central Bristol. This full-time role (5 days a week) involves leading learning in the absence of the class teacher and supporting KS1–KS2 across the day.

The ideal HLTA will have a confident, patient and nurturing approach with strong communication and teamwork skills, and a genuine interest in pupils’ learning, wellbeing and development.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working in a primary school setting.
  • Confidence in leading whole class teaching.
  • Patient, enthusiastic and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, preparing and delivering learning activities to whole classes in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Supporting the class teacher across the school day in KS1 and KS2.
  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Leading interventions in core subjects such as phonics, reading, writing and maths.
  • Helping children who find learning challenging to access the curriculum.
  • Supporting children with special educational needs including autism (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia and speech and language needs.
  • Implementing strategies from individual education plans (IEPs) and supporting pupils with EHCPs.
  • Using positive behaviour management strategies to promote a calm, purposeful learning environment.
  • Encouraging pupils' confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Preparing resources and supporting classroom organisation.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil progress.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and wider staff team.
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school where required.
