Job summary

Compass Group UK&I is seeking a Kitchen Porter to join the Eastwood Hall kitchen team in Nottinghamshire. You'll work closely with the Head Chef to keep the kitchen clean, organized and safe, enabling delivery of excellent food and service.

You’ll perform cleaning, basic food prep, and support during events. A positive attitude, strong teamwork, and good communication are essential; experience in catering is desirable but not required, with ongoing training and development provided.

  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
  • Strong commitment to cleanliness, hygiene and high standards.
  • Flexible approach to support wider kitchen and venue team.
  • Basic Food Hygiene / Level 2 Food Safety is desirable.
  • Previous experience in a Kitchen Porter or catering role is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness across the kitchen and surrounding areas.
  • Support the kitchen team with general cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Follow health and safety procedures and company standards at all times.
  • Handle food safely with COSHH, PPE and fire safety procedures.
  • Complete and maintain relevant Food Safety and Health & Safety paperwork.
  • Report hazards, near misses, accidents or faulty equipment promptly.
  • Store, handle and use kitchen equipment and chemicals correctly.
  • Carry out basic vegetable and food preparation as directed by the Head/Sous Chef.
  • Assist with loading/unloading deliveries and support hospitality events.
  • Complete mandatory training and keep records up to date.

Job description

You'll play an important role in keeping the kitchen running smoothly, supporting our chefs with food preparation, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and helping with hospitality and event service. It's a hands-on role where no two days are quite the same, and you'll be an important part of a busy kitchen team. Kitchen Porter - The Role Working closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef, you'll help ensure the kitchen is clean, organised, safe and ready to deliver great food and service.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness across the kitchen and surrounding working areas.
  • Support the kitchen team with general cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures and company standards are followed at all times.
  • Follow correct food handling, COSHH, manual handling, PPE and fire safety procedures.
  • Complete and maintain relevant Food Safety and Health & Safety paperwork when required.
  • Report any health and safety hazards, issues, near misses, accidents or faulty equipment promptly.
  • Ensure kitchen machinery, equipment, cleaning materials and chemicals are stored, controlled and used correctly.
  • Carry out basic vegetable and food preparation as directed by the Head Chef or Sous Chef.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of supply deliveries when required.
  • Support the kitchen team with hospitality and function service to ensure events run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Complete mandatory training and keep training records up to date.
  • Support the wider team with other reasonable duties as required by your Line Manager.
  • Be flexible and support other areas of the venue when required by the business., Eastwood Hall is part of The Venues Collection, a group of five dedicated meetings and conference venues across the UK, each with its own individual character and a team of people who are passionate about creating memorable guest experiences.
