Job summary

University of York's on-campus catering team is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Porter to support one of our larger campus kitchens. You will assist the kitchen brigade with basic food preparations, manage deliveries ensuring allergen compliance, and contribute to cleaning, washing and portering tasks.

The role is 15 hours per week during term time (33 weeks per year) with a start date in September 2026. A supportive team and comprehensive benefits are available on campus.

Qualifications

• Basic food preparation experience.
• Ability to handle allergen compliance and food safety.
• Experience in kitchen cleaning, washing dishes and portering.

• Receive, check and ensure deliveries comply with allergen legislation.
• Kitchen cleaning, pot washing and portering duties.

Job description

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to fill the Kitchen Porter position. This is an integral role to one of our larger kitchens on campus. The selected candidate will be responsible for:

- Assisting the kitchen brigade with basic food preparations.

- Will be responsible for recipient of food deliveries and ensure those food deliveries are compliant with the Allergen legislations

- Kitchen cleaning, pot washing and portering service.

The salary is £13.79 per hour

The hours of work are 15 per week (Term Time Only - 33 weeks per year)

This role is due to start in September 2026
