Job summary

Bob and Berts Coleraine is seeking a reliable Kitchen Porter to support our busy coffee shop team. You will help maintain cleanliness, support chefs and baristas, and ensure clean crockery and sanitary kitchen areas.

Ideal candidates are punctual, physically capable, and able to work quickly during busy lunchtimes and weekends. Training is provided, and you will be part of a friendly, close-knit team in Coleraine.

Qualifications

• Reliability with punctuality and a good attendance record.
• Ability to stand for long periods, in a warm environment, and lift heavy items.
• Previous kitchen porter or cafe/hospitality experience is a plus but training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Dishwashing and restocking to keep dishes ready.
• Clean and sanitize work surfaces, walls, floors, and prep areas.
• Assist with basic food preparation when needed.
• Manage waste and keep kitchen hygienic and organised.
• Receive deliveries, check accuracy, and organise stockroom.
• Follow health, safety and COSHH regulations.
• Help keep cafe seating and staff areas clean.

Job Summary

We are looking for a reliable, hard-working, and enthusiastic Kitchen Porter to join our busy coffee shop team. As a Kitchen Porter, you are the backbone of our kitchen and play an important customer-facing role by providing excellent, friendly customer service as a key point of contact for customers. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation behind the scenes, supporting our chefs and baristas by ensuring clean crockery is always available, the kitchen is sanitary, and food waste is managed properly. This is a crucial role that helps ensure our service runs smoothly and every customer has a welcoming experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service: Providing excellent, friendly customer service at all times, as Kitchen Porters are a key point of contact for customers and should help create a welcoming experience.

• Dishwashing:Operating the industrial dishwasher, washing pots, pans, plates, and cutlery, and ensuring they are dried and restocked quickly.
• Kitchen Hygiene:Cleaning and sanitising work surfaces, walls, floors, and food preparation areas (sinks, stoves, fridges) before, during, and after shifts.
• Support:Assisting with basic food prep, such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables or fruit when needed.
• Waste Management:Emptying kitchen bins and ensuring all waste is sorted into recycling/disposal areas.
• Stock Management:Receiving deliveries, checking them for accuracy, and organizing the stockroom and walk-in fridges.
• Safety Adherence:Following all health, safety, and hygiene regulations, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) standards.
• General Cleaning:Assisting with maintaining the cleanliness of the cafe seating area, staff rooms, or public restrooms if requested.

Requirements

• Reliability:Proven record of punctuality and reliability.
• Physical Stamina:Ability to stand for long periods, work in a warm environment, and lift heavy items (e.g., crates of deliveries).
• Team Player:Positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a close-knit team.
• Speed & Efficiency:Capable of working quickly under pressure during busy lunchtime or weekend rushes.
• Experience:Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter or in a cafe/hospitality setting is a plus but not essential—we will provide training.
