Job summary

Umami is seeking a Kitchen Porter to support the kitchen team by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation and food safety. The role contributes to a smooth and efficient service during busy periods and involves washing, storing and cleaning tasks across the kitchen.

You will follow COSHH guidelines, assist with basic food preparation where trained, and report any safety or equipment issues promptly. Training will be provided for those new to kitchen work.

Qualifications

• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• Ability to work quickly and stay organised during busy periods.
• Team player willing to assist colleagues.
• Able to follow instructions and established procedures.
• Good standard of spoken English.
• Previous kitchen experience is helpful but training provided.

Responsibilities

• Wash and store plates, cutlery, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment.
• Keep the pot-wash area clean, organised and safe.
• Clean kitchen floors, walls, equipment, storage areas and other designated areas.
• Remove waste safely and regularly, following the correct disposal and recycling procedures.
• Ensure bins are cleaned and waste areas remain tidy.
• Support with receiving and storing deliveries when required.
• Assist the kitchen team with basic food preparation where trained and authorised.
• Ensure cleaning chemicals are used and stored safely, following COSHH requirements.
• Follow all food safety, health and safety, hygiene and allergen procedures.
• Report damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, pest activity, spillages or safety hazards immediately.
• Complete required cleaning schedules and records accurately.
• Support colleagues when needed and contribute to a smooth and efficient service.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by the management team.
