Job summary

The Brackenrigg Inn, part of Another Place, The Lake, is seeking a Kitchen Porter for a 45-hour week at a picturesque Cumbrian pub by Ullswater. You will support dishwashing, prep assistance, and general kitchen operations to help deliver memorable food with care and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure kitchen equipment, utensils and areas are cleaned thoroughly, following food safety and hygiene requirements
  • Keep floors, work surfaces and kitchen areas clean, tidy and safe during service
  • Maintain high cleanliness and personal hygiene to hotel and legal standards
  • Ensure full refuse bags are removed and swing bins replaced promptly, clear spillages
  • Clean the floor area daily and as directed by the Chef
  • Sweep and clean corridors and passageways through the kitchen
  • Wash crockery and ensure work surfaces are clean and tidy
  • Clean all pots in the pot wash area and keep area clean
  • Assist with daily service preparation as needed
  • Support smooth running of all kitchen and back of house areas
  • Maintain an organised, clean and safe workplace for all
  • Record all waste in the wastage book
  • Carry out other duties as required

Kitchen Porter – The Brackenrigg Inn | by Another Place, The Lake | 45 hours per week

Local food and drink, contemporary en-suite rooms, roaring fires and lively conversation wait for guests, locals and walkers in our relaxed and inviting Cumbrian pub.

Acquired by Another Place in 2023, and a five-minute walk from our Another Place, The Lake hotel, The Brackenrigg Inn combines hearty Cumbrian food and views over Ullswater and the fells. Here you’ll find plenty of contemporary comforts with the welcoming warmth of a locals’ hearth.

Our Kitchen Porter role:

We’re looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our team at The Brackenrigg Inn.

As part of a team that values connection, flexibility, variety, and challenge, you’ll play an important role in maintaining a welcoming and efficient kitchen environment. From washing and sanitising dishes to supporting ingredient preparation, you’ll be an essential part of our kitchen operations.

With care, dedication, and attention to detail, you’ll help keep our kitchen clean and organised, ready to support our creativity with memorable moments and even better food. You’ll also assist with deliveries and a variety of kitchen tasks, gaining valuable insight into the pace and teamwork involved in a busy working kitchen.

As our Kitchen Porter you’ll be:
  • Ensuring all kitchen equipment, utensils, and areas are cleaned thoroughly and maintained to a high standard, following food safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Keeping floors, work surfaces, and kitchen areas clean, tidy, and safe throughout service to support an efficient and well-organised working environment.
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and personal hygiene to the standard required by the hotel and by law.
  • Ensuring full refuse bags are removed and replaced promptly, and that full swing bins are removed and replaced immediately, as well as clearing any spillages.
  • Cleaning the floor area daily and at the Chef’s discretion.
  • Sweeping and cleaning the corridors and passageways through the kitchen.
  • Washing crockery, cutlery and ensuring that work surfaces are clean and tidy.
  • Cleaning all pots in the pot wash area, and maintaining cleanliness of the area.
  • Helping with any preparation needed for daily service.
  • Assisting the smooth running of all aspects of the kitchen and back of house areas.
  • Maintaining an organised, clean and safe workplace for all.
  • Correctly recording all waste in the appropriate method (no member of staff is to remove any item without first checking with a supervisor and completing the kitchen wastage book).
  • Carrying out other duties as required.
