Description
Our multi-disciplinary urban design team is looking for recent graduates with a degree in Architecture or Urban Design to assist with our masterplanning and speculative housing services.
This exciting opportunity will see candidates assist with the expansion of the existing London-based Urbanism studio at our architecture offices in Somerset House. Candidates should be able to work independently and will have the opportunity to work closely with directors and members of the wider Urbanism team in Winchester.
Key Competencies
- Assist in site analysis and maximize site potential.
- Analyze urban form and architectural character, and describe these effectively.
- Assist in sketch feasibility and detailed layouts for residential and regeneration projects.
- Implement design guidelines and codes to meet planning requirements.
- Contribute to planning development briefs and prepare Design & Access Statements.
- Assist in producing outline and detailed planning applications.
- Attend public/stakeholder exhibitions, workshops, and meetings during the masterplan development process.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and well-organized.
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and take responsibility for actions.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Technical & Design
- Knowledge of CAD systems (preferably ArchiCAD; training provided).
- Understand masterplanning procedures.
- Familiarity with traditional and classical architecture is advantageous.
- Strong hand-drawing skills are a plus.
- Assist in preparing sketches, working drawings, and presentation models.
- Prepare CAD drawings for internal and external use.
- Refine and revise designs to meet briefs and site context, accommodating client needs.
- Participate in site visits, surveys, and related meetings.
- Help prepare or commission measured surveys and site reports.
Communication
- Strong verbal and visual presentation skills.
- Participate effectively in meetings.
General
- Excellent communication and personal presentation.
- Practical problem-solving skills.
- Strong written English skills.
- Interest in traditional and classical architecture (prior knowledge is a bonus).
- Eagerness to learn and expand professional knowledge.
- Willingness to assist with office duties and administration.
- Willingness to travel within the UK.
Computer/Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Working knowledge of CAD systems (training provided).
- Strong drawing and presentation abilities.
Qualifications
- Degree or master’s in urban design or architecture.
- 0–3 years of professional experience.
