Description

Our multi-disciplinary urban design team is looking for recent graduates with a degree in Architecture or Urban Design to assist with our masterplanning and speculative housing services.

This exciting opportunity will see candidates assist with the expansion of the existing London-based Urbanism studio at our architecture offices in Somerset House. In addition to the ability to work independently, candidates will have the opportunity to work closely with directors as well as members of the wider Urbanism team in Winchester.

An awareness of urban form and architectural character analysis and an ability to describe this.
An awareness of and willingness to assist in sketch feasibility and detailed layouts for a variety of residential and regeneration projects.
An awareness of and willingness to assist in implementation of design guidelines and codes to meet the demands of planning requirements.
An awareness of and willingness to assist in production of planning development briefs and preparation of Design & Access Statements for planning purposes.
An awareness of and willingness to assist in production of outline and detailed planning applications and submit same where required.
Willingness to attend public/stakeholder exhibitions, workshops, and meetings as part of the masterplan development process.
Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated and well-organised
Strong team player who can work in a multi-disciplinary team and is able to take responsibility for own actions.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Technical & Design

Working knowledge of CAD systems (ideally ArchiCAD; training will be provided)
Awareness of masterplanning procedures.
Familiarity with traditional and classical architecture is advantageous.
Strong hand-drawing skills are a plus.
Ability to assist with the preparation of sketches, working drawings, and presentation models.
Ability to prepare cad drawings for both internal and external use.
Willingness to refine and revise designs to meet the brief, respond to site context, and accommodate evolving client requirements.
Willingness to attend site visits to assist with surveys and related meetings.
Ability to help prepare or commission measured surveys and site reports.

Communication

Strong verbal and visual presentation skills.
Ability to participate in internal and external meetings.

General

Excellent communication and personal presentation.
Practical, common-sense approach to problem solving.
Strong written English skills.
Interest in traditional and classical architecture (prior knowledge is a bonus, not essential).
Eagerness to expand professional knowledge and experience.
Willingness to learn new skills and assist with general office duties and administration.
Flexibility to travel within the UK.

Computer/Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, Excel).
Working knowledge of CAD systems (ArchiCAD training provided).
Strong drawing and presentation abilities.

Qualifications
