Splendid Hospitality Group’s The Grand - York is seeking a passionate Junior Sommelier to join our wine team and deliver exceptional wine experiences across the hotel outlets.

You will work with the Head Sommelier to expand our wine offering, provide thoughtful recommendations, and ensure professional service. The role supports stock management and wine training, contributing to a memorable guest experience.

Qualifications

• Junior Sommelier with passion and knowledge in wine service.
• Experience in wine recommendations and professional service preferred.
• Ability to work alongside Head Sommelier and service teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver knowledgeable wine service and recommend wines based on guest preferences and menu choices.
• Present, open, decant and serve wines to professional standards with impeccable mise en place.
• Collaborate with Head Sommelier to grow wine sales and keep lists seasonal and relevant.
• Support wine operations through stock rotation, inventory, and receiving deliveries.
• Share knowledge through wine training, tastings, and pairing development with restaurant teams.

Description

We're looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Junior Sommelier to join our team and help bring exceptional wine experiences to life across the hotel. Working alongside our Head Sommelier, you'll combine your passion for wine with outstanding guest service, making thoughtful recommendations, delivering professional wine service and helping to grow our wine offering across our outlets.

What You Will Do In This Splendid Role:

Our wine offering is an important part of the guest experience, and you'll play a key role in making every recommendation, pairing and pour feel personal and memorable. Here’s what you will be expected to do:

• Deliver knowledgeable and engaging wine service, recommending wines based on guest preferences and menu choices while confidently explaining characteristics, regions, vintages and pairings.
• Present, open, decant and serve wines to professional standards, ensuring wine service and mise en place are impeccable before every service.
• Work alongside the Head Sommelier to grow wine sales, identify opportunities to upsell and ensure our wine lists remain relevant, seasonal and aligned with guest preferences.
• Support wine operations through stock rotation, inventory counts, cellar organisation and receiving deliveries, ensuring wine and glassware are always ready for service.
• Share your knowledge with the wider team by supporting regular wine training, menu tastings and pairing development, while working closely with Restaurant Managers and service teams to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
