You will be a Registered Nurse with demonstrable commitment to your own professional development and experience of running in a busy shift in 3D/Admission and DSU. Previous experience of supervising and leading a team is desirable. You will be committed to developing professional competence and helping to build skills portfolios through experiential learning and education to maximize career prospects of each team member.

3D ward at Royal London Hospital cover a diverse range of all elective oncology patients in a variety of specialties.

Main duties of the job

To ensure continuity and high standards of care including sharing ideas, information and feedback in order to empower patients and members of the interdisciplinary team.

To take proactive role in producing accurate and complete records of activities and communications consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.

Doing assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of care and the setting of standards on a shift. To deputize for the senior charge nurse/senior sister in his or her absence when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

3D is an exciting and varied purpose build unit which cares for patients with a range of surgical conditions. This department comprises of four different areas where staff are rotated, they are:

Day Surgery Admission unit

The unit admits and prepares all range of elective surgical, agreed emergencies and Trauma patients. It is a fast paced unit that prepares between sixty to seventy patients per day, this unit work closely with theatre and the Interventional Radiology department.

Day Surgery Unit

The unit cares for patients who have undergone a range of surgical procedures, including general surgery, orthopedics, dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology and maxillo facial surgery. This unit have a maximum of four hours recovery time due to fast pace and the vast number of patients going through the unit.

3D Ward

3D ward provides care for patients undergoing or have undergone a range of surgical procedures, including general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, dermatology, ENT and maxillo facial surgery. It has 46 beds and is intended elective oncology surgical patients with a maximum length of stay of seven days. It is a dynamic and well led unit run by a highly focused and friendly team of experienced nurses.

Mile End Day Surgery Unit

Mile End Day Surgery Unit was set up to care for patients undergoing pain injection, who are able to tolerate Topical / Block Anaesthesia.

If you are keen to gain a wide range of nursing experience within 3D ward with a range of clinical conditions then this area is for you.

The environment offers excellent opportunities to expand your experience in surgical nursing and provides experience in treating a wide range of surgical conditions.

The team structure brings together a wide range of experience including Senior Sister, an extended nursing team including Band 6s, band 5s and healthcare support workers. As a Band 6 nurse, you will be responsible for providing the high quality, individualised and holistic patient care. This will include assessment, planning and implementation of care working within the multidisciplinary team. You will be encouraged to practice autonomously as a member of the surgical team

  • Post registration experience including a minimum of 1 year recent experience within the specialities
