Job summary

BMI Group in Crawley is seeking a Junior Product Design Engineer to join the CTSD team. You will design and iterate roofing products using CAD, lead prototyping, and drive validation from concept through testing on the shop floor.

Working with senior engineers, you’ll translate briefs into technical specs for manufacturing. A 2–5 year track record, CAD skills, and a willingness to travel are required to support international operations.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in product development or industrial design.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related STEM field.
• Strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
• Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and prototyping methods.
• Willingness to travel internationally (primarily within Europe).
• Ability to learn new tools quickly and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to distil technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and innovate using CAD and simulation tools to develop roofing products and production equipment.
• Prototype and test to validate designs and ensure compliance before launch.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain, Marketing, and Operations to translate briefs into technical specs.
• Communicate engineering data clearly to commercial teams.
• Ensure designs align with internal quality systems and industry standards.
