Job summary

Zero Surplus, a design-led luxury interiors brand, is seeking a Junior Product Development Engineer for its R&D team in Harlow. The role starts with supporting senior engineers, moving toward owning your own products through development, prototyping, and manufacture.

You will create 3D CAD models, drawings, and specifications for quotation and production, liaise with suppliers and labs, and help manage the NPI timeline while ensuring deadlines and high quality.

Qualifications

• Degree in product design or industrial design preferred.
• BA acceptable for an engineering career, not concept design.
• Mechanical engineering degree considered with 6 months to 2 years in a design role.
• Zero to two years of experience welcome.
• SolidWorks or 3D CAD experience and ability to learn quickly.
• Interest in manufacturing processes such as extrusion, die casting, injection moulding, pressing, fabrication and glass.
• Understanding of product testing and attention to detail.
• Team player with respect for deadlines.
• Willing to work full time at the Harlow office through probation; relocation considered.

Responsibilities

• Prototype and 3D-printed model development.
• Prepare engineering drawings and specifications for quotation and manufacture.
• Conduct in-house testing and coordinate external lab certification.
• Prepare sample evaluation reports to factories.
• Lead NPI timeline for own products during progression.
• Collaborate with suppliers, packaging, quality, and technical teams; liaise with China office.
• Possibility to visit manufacturers overseas as you progress.
• Design for manufacture with focus on cost and launch deadlines.
