Job summary

HR GO Group is recruiting a Junior Shift Maintenance Engineer for its Grays, Thurrock site. You will join a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment, working 4 on 4 off from 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am, paired with an experienced engineer to develop skills across electrical and mechanical systems.

Ideal candidates have recently completed an engineering apprenticeship or military engineering background, with a strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn. Ex-forces are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planned and reactive maintenance across production equipment.

• Collaborate with Production to keep lines running smoothly.
• Follow health and safety procedures and complete logs.

Job Title: Junior Shift Maintenance Engineer (Apprenticeship / Ex-Forces Welcome)

Location: Grays, Thurrock

Hours: 4 on 4 off (Rotating Days & Nights) (6am to 6pm / 6pm to 6am) Salary: Up to £45k (DOE) + Benefits

HR GO Recruitment is exclusively recruiting for a Junior Shift Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established FMCG manufacturing site in Grays, Thurrock.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has recently completed an engineering apprenticeship (electrical, mechanical or multi-skilled) and is looking to build experience in a fast-paced production environment. You will be paired with an experienced engineer on shift to support your development and help you learn the site machinery, standards, and industry best practice.

We would also welcome applications from individuals leaving the Armed Forces, following previous success with ex-military hires - particularly those with strong hands‑on engineering, fault‑finding, or maintenance experience.

Key Responsibilities (with support and training):

• Assist with planned (PPM) and reactive maintenance across production and site equipment.
• Support fault‑finding on electrical and mechanical breakdowns to reduce downtime.
• Help diagnose issues and carry out repairs safely and effectively, escalating where required.
• Work closely with Production to keep lines running efficiently and support continuous improvement.
• Follow health & safety procedures, complete basic paperwork/logs, and maintain high working standards.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

• Recently completed apprenticeship or equivalent practical engineering experience (including military engineering backgrounds).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical systems (or vice versa).
• A logical approach to problem‑solving and the ability to work well in a team.

Desirable:

• Electrical qualifications (NVQ, HNC, 18th Edition or equivalent).
• Any experience in FMCG / Food & Beverage / manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Plastics/Extrusion would be beneficial.
