Job description

Junior Field Service Engineer - Electrically and Mechanically capable

Midlands - Home Based / Field Based, Electrical Bias | Full Product Training Provided

Are you an electrically capable engineer looking to develop your career as a Field Service Engineer working on sophisticated industrial machinery?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established British engineering manufacturer that designs and builds its own range of industrial machinery.

You’ll receive training on the company's machines and technology. What matters is that you have a good electrical foundation, can understand how machinery works and enjoy fault finding and solving technical problems.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work from home, travelling to manufacturing customers predominantly across the South of England to:

  • Service, maintain and repair industrial machinery
  • Install and commission new machines
  • Diagnose electrical, control-system and mechanical faults
  • Read and work from electrical schematics
  • Use diagnostic tools and remote monitoring technology to identify problems
  • Carry out preventative maintenance
  • Train customers in the operation of their machines
  • Work alongside experienced engineers when tackling more complex technical issues
  • Provide customers with a professional, helpful technical service

As your experience develops, you'll become increasingly responsible for diagnosing and resolving more complex machine and control-system problems independently.

What We’re Looking For

We’re interested in engineers who are electrically strong and mechanically capable.

You might currently be working as a:

You don’t need to tick every box, but ideally you’ll have:

  • Good practical electrical engineering skills
  • Experience fault finding on industrial equipment or machinery
  • The ability to understand and follow electrical schematics
  • Some exposure to PLCs, machine controls, drives, motors, sensors or industrial automation
  • Enough mechanical ability to work confidently around industrial machinery
  • An engineering apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or similar practical engineering background
  • A logical approach to fault finding
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers
  • A willingness to learn new technology
  • A full UK driving licence
  • The flexibility to travel to customer sites and happy to stay away overnight when required
Why Consider It?

This isn’t a role where you’ll simply replace parts from a fault code.

You’ll learn how sophisticated machinery actually works and develop your skills across electrical systems, controls, mechanical systems, industrial technology and machine diagnostics.

For an engineer early in their field‑service career, it offers the opportunity to develop into a genuinely skilled multi‑disciplined Service Engineer while working on modern industrial equipment.
