Job summary

A leading design consultancy is seeking motivated Graduates for the 2025 Graduate Recruitment Scheme in the position of Junior Designer. This 12-month fixed-term role offers a unique opportunity to work on local and global design projects, receive mentorship, and develop critical design skills within a creative team. Job description

This role is part of our 2025 Graduate Recruitment Scheme, available only for recent Graduates who have completed a university qualification within the last 12 months. All Graduates will be offered a 12-month Fixed-Term contract based at our 150 Holborn Studio.

You will work directly with our talented Portland Design team, an internationally renowned design consultancy specializing in brand propositions and design experiences since 1987. Portland emphasizes the importance of emotional and physical engagement with brands, communities, and places, tackling diverse design challenges with a team of creative and strategic thinkers.

As a Junior Designer, you will contribute to various local and global projects, gaining confidence and hands-on experience in integrating design, problem-solving, and understanding human behavior to enhance user experiences. You will receive support, guidance, and mentorship to develop professionally.

This role is open to applicants with 0-1 years' industry experience.

Overall responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the design process under routine guidance, contributing to project success and standards of excellence.
  • Understanding branding concepts and their integration in the built environment.
  • Preparing design plans, strategies, storytelling, and schedules.
  • Supporting development of diagrams, sections, and elevations.
  • Applying design principles such as form, scale, color, and texture.
  • Asking questions and showing curiosity about design and industry trends.
  • Performing tasks creatively and systematically.
  • Supporting project team tasks and studio activities.
  • Communicating ideas effectively to inspire others.
  • Participating in reviews, charettes, and coordination with partners.

Critical skills and qualifications include:

  • Personable, presentable, and articulate.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Basic understanding of environmental graphic design, including research, branding, storytelling, and graphic conceptualization.

Software skills required:

  • Revit
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Rhino / Grasshopper (desirable)
  • Enscape / VRay (desirable)

Educational requirements:

  • Degree in a related field

Qualifications in Graphics, Graphic Communication, or Innovation & Environmental Design are also considered.
