Job summary

World Wide Technology (WWT) in Glasgow is seeking a Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join its Crypto team. You will support the build and operation of cryptographic infrastructure, including HSMs and key management platforms, under guidance from a senior engineer.

This is a contract role for 2 years, hybrid in Glasgow, with responsibilities spanning encryption key lifecycle, integration with applications, documentation, and process automation.

Qualifications

• Around 2 years’ experience in cyber security engineering or related security role.
• Experience with HSMs or knowledge of vendor offerings (Thales Luna, payShield, Entrust nShield, Utimaco, or cloud HSMs).
• Understanding of encryption, key management, PKI principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and explain topics to stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn and work under guidance of a senior engineer.
• The right to work in the UK.
• Experience with PKI or certificate lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of KMIP and PKCS#11.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix.
• Scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell).
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and risk controls related to cryptographic infrastructure.
• Experience in a regulated environment, such as financial services.

Responsibilities

• Support the build and maintenance of cryptographic infrastructure, including Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and key management platforms.
• Assist with encryption key lifecycle processes (generation, rotation, archival and destruction) in line with firm security standards.
• Support the integration of cryptographic services with enterprise applications.
• Troubleshoot and help resolve issues related to cryptographic systems.
• Maintain documentation and help answer customer queries, including FAQ entries.
• Help automate certificate and key management workflows and improve processes.
• Work with cybersecurity, risk and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal control requirements.
