Job summary

Smith and Brown Cabinetmakers, part of Size Group, seeks a Junior CNC Programmer in North London to convert architectural specs into efficient CNC programs for joinery and cabinetry. You will work with Homag machining centres, translate 2D drawings into 3D programs, and support setup, testing, and quality control.

The role requires at least three years in CNC programming within woodworking, familiarity with WoodWOP or CutRite, and strong CAD/CAM skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years’ experience in CNC programming in woodworking/cabinet-making
• Experience operating/multi-axis Homag CNC machines (BHC, Centateq, Weeke)
• Knowledge of MDF, solid wood and laminates machining
• Understanding of G-Code principles
• Familiarity with Homag software (WoodWOP) or CutRite; or Alphacam/Solidworx with willingness to cross-train
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM for design review and program generation
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to precision and quality control
• Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude for feeds, speeds and clearances
• Excellent communication to relay technical information to production team
• Relevant technical certification or apprenticeship in CNC Machining/Woodworking (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Translate design specs into optimised CNC programs
• Create, edit and refine CNC programs for production
• Set up machines and perform test runs
• Manage tooling databases and tool offsets
• Maintain library of CNC programs and setup sheets
• Suggest improvements to machining processes and tooling
• Support quality control activities
• Ensure safety, quality and efficiency in production
