Job summary

Joshua Robert Recruitment partners with a fast-growing Birmingham design and build contractor to recruit a Junior Quantity Surveyor. Join a hands-on, design-led team and get involved from day one—pricing, take-offs, subcontractor quotes, and commercial support on refurbishment projects up to £500k. You’ll learn through mentoring and clear progression as the business grows.

Salary and benefits are to be confirmed. Commutable to Birmingham and eager to grow within a supportive team will fit well.

Qualifications

• Experience in QS, estimating or commercial support, preferably in fit-out or interiors.
• Construction-related degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent drive to build a QS career.
• Proficient with Excel and reading drawings for quantities.
• Strong numeracy with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support pricing of tenders for projects up to £500k.
• Take off quantities from drawings and specs.
• Source subcontractor quotes and compile tender returns.
• Collaborate with PMs and designers to define scope and flag risks.
• Help track costs, variations, and valuations during live projects.
• Learn commercial processes from budgets to final accounts.

Our client is a fast-growing Birmingham team behind some of the city's best-loved restaurants, bars, workplaces and heritage buildings. They're looking for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to support the pricing of fit-out and refurbishment works up to £500k, working alongside the Project Managers and the in-house design team.

You’ll see projects from first drawing to final account, and you’ll learn from a team that cares about commercial detail as much as great design.

What you'll be doing:

• Supporting the pricing of tenders and quotes for projects up to £500k
• Taking off quantities from drawings and specifications
• Sourcing subcontractor and supplier quotes and building up tender returns
• Working with the PMs and designers to understand scope and flag risks early
• Helping to track costs, variations and valuations once projects are live
• Learning how the commercial side runs, from budgets to final accounts

What you'll bring:

• Some experience in a QS, estimating or commercial support role, ideally in fit-out or interiors
• Or a construction-related degree or HNC/HND and a real drive to build a career in QS
• Comfortable with Excel and measuring from drawings
• A sharp eye for detail and good numeracy
• A proactive, organised approach and the confidence to ask questions
• Commutable to Birmingham
