PSR Solutions is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor - Building in Birmingham to lead commercial delivery on major building projects across the West Midlands. You will manage procurement, subcontracts, valuations, variations, and final accounts, working closely with clients and supply chain to maximise value.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline required or preferred.
• Experience in main contracting environment with cost management and commercial delivery.
• Strong understanding of contracts, measurements, valuations and cost control.
• Experience procuring and managing subcontract packages.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercial management of building projects including cost control, forecasting, reporting, and final accounts.
• Manage subcontract procurement, tender analysis, negotiations, and contract administration.
• Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations, variations and claims.
• Monitor risks and opportunities with mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with delivery teams to improve profitability via value engineering.
• Produce cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial updates for senior management.
• Mentor Assistant and Quantity Surveyors and develop talent within the team.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Building

Location: Birmingham

An established and highly regarded main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the successful delivery of building projects across the West Midlands region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven professional to take ownership of either a major scheme or a portfolio of projects, providing commercial leadership from procurement through to final account. You will work closely with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners to maximise project value, manage risk, and drive commercial success.

The Role

• Lead the commercial management of construction projects, ensuring robust cost control, forecasting, reporting, and final account settlement.
• Manage subcontractor procurement, tender analysis, negotiations, and ongoing contract administration.
• Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations, variations, and contractual claims.
• Monitor project performance, identifying commercial risks and opportunities while implementing effective mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with project delivery teams to enhance profitability through value engineering and commercial best practice.
• Produce accurate cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial performance updates for senior management.
• Support and mentor Assistant and Quantity Surveyors, helping to develop future talent within the commercial team.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.

About You

• Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying or Senior Quantity Surveying role within a main contracting environment.
• A strong track record of managing the commercial delivery of construction projects through to final account.
• Excellent knowledge of construction contracts, measurement principles, valuations, and cost management.
• Experience procuring and managing subcontract packages across a range of disciplines.
• The ability to produce detailed cost forecasts, financial reports, and project commercial reviews.
• Strong understanding of construction methodology, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Experience managing commercial risk, dispute avoidance, and value engineering initiatives.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior commercial team members.Experience working across sectors such as education, healthcare, commercial, residential, mixed-use, or public sector developments would be advantageous.

A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is preferred, with RICS membership or progression towards chartership viewed favourably.
