Salary: £27,300 - £37,300, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Introduction

BBC News Russian is one of the BBC's largest language services, providing multimedia content across BBC platforms and social media worldwide. Our output adheres to BBC's values of accuracy and impartiality, free from external pressures.

Based in London and Riga, led by the Assistant Editor, the social media team produces innovative digital content to engage Russian Service audiences, especially as many platforms are blocked in Russia.

We seek an experienced, creative, self-motivated social media journalist for our London team. The role involves supporting social strategy, maintaining editorial standards, and engaging audiences across platforms.

This requires a strong background in social media, visual storytelling, journalistic practices, and analytics. Experience in creating video and repurposing assets is essential.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with editorial teams to bring news and features to life on social platforms.
  • Create, post, and engage on leading social media platforms.
  • Produce visual and text content aligned with BBC style and tone.
  • Understand platform features and develop suitable formats.
  • Contribute ideas and formats for news coverage on social media.
  • Identify and produce stories, including creating and editing content.
  • Develop creative storytelling approaches using various tools.
  • Analyze performance data and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Stay current with industry trends and share insights.
  • Work collaboratively toward shared goals with colleagues.
Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience in social and digital media.
  • Photo and video editing skills using Photoshop, Figma, Canva, Final Cut.
  • Deep understanding of social platforms like Telegram, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X.
  • Strong visual awareness and aesthetic sense.
  • Fluent Russian (native or equivalent) and English.
  • Knowledge of news and current affairs related to Russia, FSU, and internationally.
  • Editorial judgment and quick decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of legal and editorial policies.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a 24-hour newsroom, including nights and weekends.
  • Commitment to BBC's editorial guidelines and values.
