BBC Russian is one of the largest of the BBC’s language services providing multimedia content on BBC platforms and through social media to our Russian speaking audiences in Russia and across the world 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
Our output is contemporary in style and outlook and adheres to BBC Values of accuracy and impartiality. We aim to have broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures.
We are looking for a journalist to join our 24-hour online newsroom in Broadcasting House, London. This role will be reporting directly to the Assistant Editor Output.
You will research, gather, write, translate, edit or adapt material to produce digital content. You’ll also:
Develop story ideas and sources as appropriate and to the required specification.
Be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required.
Think through and ways around editorial problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.
Offer ideas for innovative digital content, attending editorial and planning meetings as required.
Suggest new angles and formats on existing stories in order to bring them to life for the audience.
Liaise closely with other team members and with contributors, reporters and stringers.
Use online production systems to produce content for BBCRussian.com.
Be familiar with different technical systems, including news production systems, and to show a willingness to learn to operate new technology systems and to be able to adapt to different working methods.
Ensure that Russian content caters for all our audiences in the FSU region, and that our output is enjoyed by our female audiences and young people.
Build strong relationships with other parts of the BBC, in particular within Global News.
You will have full command and up-to-date knowledge of spoken and written modern Russian, as first or equivalent language. You’ll also have good knowledge of English, including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively. It’s also essential that you have:

Salary: £29,000 - £39,000 plus London weighting, the salary is depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
