Joiner Opportunity at HMP Humber

As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for maintenance trades and support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a Joiner for HMP Humber, Brough, East Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service, with potential for permanent employment based on performance.

The position is full-time (39 hours per week) on an ongoing temporary basis, with possible permanent opportunities. We also consider applications from those seeking part-time work willing to do a job share.

Working Hours

Monday – Thursday: 07:45am – 16:45pm
Friday: 07:45am – 15:45pm (with 1-hour unpaid break)
Required: 1 in 3 weekend shifts and on-call rota.

Your New Role

The main responsibility is to carry out security practices within the prison during subcontractor work.

• Carry out joinery work, including repairing doors, windows, signposts, formwork, and bespoke timber items.
• Measure and quote for works.
• Order materials and maintain stock of building materials.
• Organise and plan daily work with the supervisor, recording and submitting work details.
• Maintain the joinery workshop, including machinery, inspections, and cleanliness.
• Support local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards sustainability.
• Ensure H&S standards are met across the contract.

Due to the environment, candidates should be level-headed, security-conscious, able to follow procedures, honest, and proactive in reporting suspicious activity.

Candidate Requirements

• Level 3 in Joinery & Carpentry (NVQ Level 3 preferred, NVQ Level 2 considered).
• Manual tool handling and ladder use experience.
• Ability to pass prison security clearance and enhanced DBS.
• Valid passport or full birth certificate, photo driving licence, proof of NI, and proof of address within 3 months.
• At least 3 years of satisfactory references.
