Job summary

Version 1, a trusted technology and transformation partner, seeks a Java Engineer for its UK Digital Data & Cloud Practice in London to work on a high‑volume message processing environment for a financial services client.

You will work with Kafka, Kubernetes/OpenShift, caching, REST APIs, and distributed systems, delivering backend Java solutions with a focus on performance, security, and resilience, while embracing CI/CD and AI tooling awareness.

Qualifications

• Some exposure to trading or financial platforms, with awareness of latency, resiliency, throughput and failover handling.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications with a microservices architecture on Docker/OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Solid Java development skills, SQL (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.) and messaging (Kafka/MQ).
• Experience with Spring framework and Spring Boot.
• Java REST API development and application security (OAuth, JWT).
• Experience with build and source control tools: Gradle, Maven, Git/Bitbucket.
• Familiarity with Redis caching.
• Awareness of AI coding assistants to accelerate development and review code.
• Ability to apply AI tooling critically (validate/refactor/integrate).
• Awareness of prompt engineering for software workflows.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend components in Java, focusing on performance and resilience.
• Contribute to features across messaging, caching, and distributed processing layers.
• Troubleshoot sequencing, recovery, and large-volume processing issues.
• Support releases, deployments, and production stability activities.
• Adhere to CI/CD pipelines, code quality standards, and operational readiness requirements.
• Apply performance, security, and resilience best practices around message handling.
