Job summary

Version 1 is seeking a Java Engineer to join our UK Digital Data & Cloud Practice, focusing on high‑volume message processing in a Kafka-based environment. You will contribute to a Java-based backend, with Kubernetes/OpenShift, caching, and REST APIs, supporting a trading client in financial services.

The role emphasizes scalable, distributed systems and a pragmatic approach to performance, resilience, and security, with exposure to cloud-native architectures and Agile methodologies.

Qualifications

• Experience with cloud-native apps in a microservices architecture on Docker/OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Solid Java development, SQL (SQL Server/Oracle) and messaging (Kafka/MQ).
• Spring and Spring Boot experience.
• Java REST API development and security best practices (OAuth, JWT).
• Build and source control with Gradle, Maven, Git.
• Familiarity with Redis caching.
• Awareness of AI coding assistants and how to use them critically.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend components in Java, with a focus on performance and resilience.
• Contribute hands-on to features across messaging, caching, and distributed processing layers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to sequencing, recovery, message failures, and large-volume processing.
• Support releases, deployments, and production stability activities.
• Adhere to CI/CD pipelines, code quality standards, and operational readiness requirements.
• Apply performance, security, and resilience best practices, particularly around message handling.
