Job summary

BT plc, Ipswich or Birmingham Hybrid, is seeking a Java Software Engineering Specialist to design, develop and test back-end software for BT’s broadband networks. You will lead component design, collaborate with vendors and BT teams, and mentor junior engineers, while delivering automated deployment pipelines and secure, scalable services.

The role targets systems engineering excellence with emphasis on API integration, DevOps practices, and continuous improvement within an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience of writing robust software with Java and Python.
• Good understanding of APIs (REST) and system integration.
• Experience using containerized deployment environments (Docker).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git, Jenkins).
• DevOps mindset - repeatable delivery using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins/Git Runners.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and test software components for the broadband network.
• Design deployment strategies for multi-component, fault-tolerant, distributed services.
• Lead design of new components and mentor team members.
• Package software for automated deployment and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate within an agile framework with stakeholders across teams.
• Respond swiftly to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
