The Role

We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused IT Support Technician to join our team. This role is central to the smooth operation of our IT Service Desk function and involves a broad range of responsibilities, from frontline support to project delivery and compliance management.

You will be one of the first points of contact for IT queries, ensuring efficient ticket handling and excellent customer service. You will also contribute to system installations, user provisioning, asset management, and ISO9001 compliance.

All members of the team are expected to be involved with all aspects of IT Services and support provision required by the Department while specialising in one or more services.

This is a primarily on-site based role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the IT Service Desk, responding to queries or assigning them to technical specialists as appropriate.
  • Track and analyse support tickets to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Provide in-person and remote IT support to end users, following and updating local procedures.
  • Install Windows operating systems and applications, fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of system and network issues.
  • Manage and deliver user provisioning for the Technology Department.
  • Deliver IT projects delegated by the group leader, including documentation and project management.
  • Procure IT equipment and software licenses.
  • Maintain records for ISO9001 certification and audits, including hardware/software inventories and license renewals.
  • Liaise with other IT teams within STFC to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Represent the group and department in relevant IT meetings.
  • Maintain records for IT security, laptops, and other assets.

Essential Skills

  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, busy team.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Windows OS deployment and support.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 standards and IT asset management.
  • Previous experience in a technical support or service desk environment.

STFC values their employees by offering a benefits package designed to provide an excellent work/life balance including 30 days’ annual leave, 10.5 public and privilege holidays, flexible working hours, exceptional average salary pension scheme, social and sporting activities and societies and a subsidised restaurant.
