Job description

At SYOS Aerospace, we’re not here to do things the way they’ve always been done. We’re building the next generation of autonomous systems across air, land, and sea - turning ambitious ideas into technology that works in the real world.

The SYOS Way

At SYOS, we're passionate about enabling our people to do their best work. You'll play a key role in delivering reliable IT support, improving our technology environment, and helping teams stay connected, productive, and focused on achieving outstanding results.

About the role

As an IT Support Engineer, you will be a key contributor to maintaining and advancing SYOS' IT infrastructure and security posture in the UK. You will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and continuous improvement of our IT systems while working under the strategic direction of our IT Manager. This is a permanent UK-based role where you will take ownership of day-to-day IT operations across our UK sites and provide essential support as business needs evolve.

Day to day you’ll:
  • Provide advanced technical support for user hardware, software, and network infrastructure across UK operations, ensuring minimal disruption to business-critical activities.
  • Take ownership of incident and problem management, handling complex technical challenges independently with timely resolution and thorough documentation.
  • Monitor system performance, implement optimisation strategies, and oversee backup, patching, and disaster recovery processes for UK systems.
  • Develop and deploy security solutions in response to vulnerability alerts within strict timeframes, ensuring compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus standards and defence industry security requirements.
  • Support IT projects, system upgrades, testing, and rollouts across UK sites.
  • Proactively identify IT risks and opportunities for infrastructure improvement.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Manage IT asset tracking, stock levels, and vendor relationships for procurement and escalated support.
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager on strategic IT development plans and security initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior IT support staff as the team grows (subject to resource planning).
Required Skills And Experience:
  • 3+ years' experience in 2nd Line IT Support or Systems Administration within a Microsoft environment.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Windows 11, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Group Policy, Intune, and mobile device management (MDM).
  • Solid networking knowledge across firewalls, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and experience implementing internet and email filtering solutions.
  • Experience working with ITIL frameworks and ITSM tools to deliver high-quality support services.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of complex technical issues.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Experience working in secure, highly regulated environments, ideally within the defence, aerospace, or advanced technology sectors.
Nice to have:
  • Experience administering Linux (Ubuntu) environments, cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Intune, or AWS), and using PowerShell to automate and streamline IT administration tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Cyber Essentials Plus standards, security best practices, and audit processes.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft (e.g. Azure Administrator), CompTIA A+/Network+, CCNA, or ITIL Foundation are highly regarded.
What We Offer:
  • A dynamic and fast-paced environment working on state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle technology.
  • Opportunities for career growth and professional development in a high-tech, innovative team.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Autonomy to shape and lead UK IT operations.
  • Continuous learning opportunities in cutting-edge cybersecurity and infrastructure technologies.
  • Close collaboration with international teams across New Zealand.
Location:

This role is based on site in Fareham, UK, working closely with our IT Manager and collaborating with our international team.

Office attendance will be a minimum of 4 days per week but with the expectation to attend to issues on-site when working remotely.
