Job summary

SYOS Aerospace in Fareham is seeking a Mechanical Technician - Aviation for a six-month contract to assemble, test and troubleshoot mechanical systems on unmanned aircraft, payloads and ground support equipment. The role requires reading CAD drawings, working to technical documentation, and maintaining safe build records while collaborating with engineers and suppliers.

This hands-on position offers practical experience in aerospace assembly and the potential to convert to permanent as the UK

Qualifications

  • Level 3 technical qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, aerospace or related discipline.
  • Experience assembling, inspecting, testing and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD documentation, manuals and work instructions.
  • Strong understanding of tool control, FOD prevention and safe systems of work.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, repair, adjust and align metallic and composite components.
  • Build mechanical assemblies using CAD drawings, technical documentation and work instructions.
  • Conduct inspections, functional testing and pre-delivery checks.
  • Operate and maintain production equipment, tools and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems including fuel systems, landing gear, launchers, stabilisers, rotor systems and ICE powerplants.
  • Support payload integration, aircraft rigging and system integration.
  • Identify and resolve faults while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Maintain accurate build, inspection, test, maintenance, defect and configuration records.
  • Identify hazards and contribute to risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with engineers, operators, suppliers and customers to deliver safe and reliable UAS.

Job description

At SYOS, we’re building the next generation of autonomous vehicles across air, land and sea.

We’re growing our UK production team and are looking for a Mechanical Technician - Aviation to join us in Fareham on a 6-month contract.

This is a hands-on role focused on assembling, installing, testing and troubleshooting the mechanical systems and structures used across unmanned aircraft, payloads and ground support equipment.

This is an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent as SYOS continues to grow its UK production capability.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring
  • Level 3 technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in mechanical engineering, aerospace, robotics or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience assembling, inspecting, testing and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD documentation, manuals and work instructions.
  • Strong understanding of tool control, FOD prevention and safe systems of work.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competence using standard Windows applications and electronic records.
  • Eligibility to obtain and retain any required security clearance.
Desirable:

Experience with UAS mechanical systems or within aviation, defence, space, automotive or another safety-critical environment. HNC/HND or professional engineering registration is also advantageous.
