Job summary

University of Brighton’s Information Services is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead IT infrastructure, systems development and transformation initiatives. You will collaborate with IT and university stakeholders to deliver projects of varying complexity, ensuring robust governance, budgets and risks are managed effectively.

The ideal candidate has strong leadership, planning and communication skills, plus a track record of delivering IT change with high quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience as a Project Manager delivering IT infrastructure, systems development, change and transformation.
  • Understand and apply practices, procedures and methods for effective project management (PRINCE2, Agile).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills across levels, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with budget and procurement approaches as they relate to project delivery.
  • Solid business analysis and requirements management understanding within project lifecycles.
  • Experience with business improvement and change management principles, including benefits realisation.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, presentation and written skills, able to articulate technical issues for non-specialist audiences.
  • Positive, proactive attitude and ability to mentor colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead IT infrastructure, systems development and transformation projects from initiation to delivery.
  • Coordinate with IT, the University and external partners to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Manage budgets, risks and change control; provide regular reporting to stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support colleagues to develop the University's project-management capability.

An exciting opportunity to become part of a small dynamic team in Information Services which provides project management and business analysis expertise for designated projects and initiatives


The successful candidate will be pro‑active in collaborating with colleagues in IT, the wider University as well as external parties, bringing your project management expertise to a wide range of change and improvement activities to ensure projects are delivered to the highest quality. You will have strong organisation, analysis and planning skills to manage large and complex IT related projects, underpinned by excellent project co‑ordination, reporting, budget, change control and risk management skills.


Aligned to this will be the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders across the University, as well as externally. This will see you exercise a great deal of leadership, independence, initiative and judgement, with an ability to lead and facilitate discussions balancing stakeholder interests with those of the University so that best outcomes are achieved in its IT development.


With a commitment to best practice project management and promoting the discipline, we will want you to also mentor and support colleagues as part of developing the University's capability in this area.


The ideal candidate will also need :


  • Substantial experience as a Project Manager in delivering IT infrastructure, systems development, change and transformation supporting projects

  • A thorough understanding and demonstrable application of practices, procedures and methods required for effective project management supported by professional qualification(s) and/or experience such as Prince2, Agile

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills with an ability to control and facilitate discussions with colleagues at all levels, both internally and externally

  • Experience and familiarity with budget and procurement approaches as they relate to project delivery

  • A well‑developed understanding of business analysis and requirements management as part of project lifecycle delivery

  • Experience of business improvement and change management principles, including benefits management and realisation

  • Excellent organisational, analytical, presentation and written skills, including an ability to articulate technical issues for non‑specialist audiences

  • A positive 'can-do' approach to your work, supporting and encouraging this in others.


This is a full time, permanent position (37 hours per week) based at our Moulsecoomb Campus, and we welcome applications from candidates looking to job share.
