University of Exeter is seeking an IT Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer to join the Service Management division of IT Services on a full-time basis. The role is based on Streatham campus in Exeter with a hybrid pattern requiring 2–3 days on site per week.
The successful candidate will monitor core infrastructure services, resolve issues proactively, and escalate where appropriate. A detailed background in cloud platforms and ITIL practices is essential.

The starting salary will be from £33,951on Grade E, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working - some time on campus and some from home.

This exciting full-time position of IT Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer is available from September 2026 within the Service Management division of IT Services. Based on the Streatham campus in Exeter. The position is a hybrid role requiring 2-3 days per week onsite.
The successful candidate will work within the Cloud & Infrastructure team reporting to the Cloud & Infrastructure manager. Primary responsibilities will include monitoring core infrastructure services, proactively resolve issues, and elevate where appropriate. Progressing support tickets and acting as a first point of contact for the Cloud & Infrastructure team, liaising with other 1st, 2nd & 3rd line teams to ensure service requests and incidents are resolved efficiently. This role also involves working with senior Cloud & Infrastructure engineers to deliver projects.
The post-holder will be required to have experience in the administration of various cloud & infrastructure platforms and technologies such as Virtual Machine environments, Active Directory, Azure, AWS, Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, storage platforms, backup methodologies, O365 etc. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate theories and best practice as per the ITIL framework. Previous experience of working within an enterprise data centre environment would be advantageous.
The role holder will need to take a proactive, pragmatic, and positive approach to problem-solving. Demonstrate an understanding of what customer service excellence means. Undertake tasks with a positive attitude, prepared to meet business goals and respond well to change. Offer a flexible and adaptable approach to working in an environment with a culture of change and growth. May be required to work out-of-hours to undertake maintenance work as required.
