We have a great opportunity for an Investment Solutions Manager to join our Fiduciary Management (FM) team on a permanent basis in our London office (hybrid based).

Who we are

Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.

The role

As an Investment Solutions Manager, you will play a key role in the implementation of investment strategies at Railpen, with a particular focus on corporate bond and LDI fund implementation. This will involve the development and ongoing review of mandates for these and other Railpen pooled funds, working closely with both external investment managers and internal stakeholders. The role also includes inputting into strategic investment decision-making and involvement in the day-to-day execution of agreed investment strategies. This requires engagement with a number of stakeholders to understand client requirements, the market environment and integration with risk and performance monitoring.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

The person

The successful candidate will bring an asset-focussed lens to this mandate review and will have a good understanding of the operation of LDI funds. They will be comfortable in assessing the appropriateness of any benchmarks used and engaging with both internal stakeholders and the underlying asset manager to challenge their approach and seek improvements to the management of asset and liability-related risks. You will have demonstrable experience of implementing investment mandates, including the design of these mandates and consideration of how to respond to changes in market conditions or client requirements. Experience developing benchmarks for LDI mandates and other features of interest rate and inflation hedge design would be a distinct advantage.

As an Investment Solutions Manager you must be comfortable working independently with external parties, challenging the status quo and identifying improvements. As part of this, you will have the ability to communicate, engage and influence stakeholders through concise and impactful language, despite complexity of the subject matter. The successful candidate will be adaptable to changing requirements and be keen to get involved in the various aspects of portfolio management. We are looking for someone who has a deep passion for long-term multi asset investing with a continuous learning mindset, and who is keen to manage and improve the design of Railpen’s assets so that they meet their investment objectives in support of our organisation wide purpose to secure our members’ future.

Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others.
