Job summary

Thorlabs Inc in Ely is seeking a hands-on operative to run material and electronic flow operations across our end-to-end value stream, ensuring timely production and stock accuracy. The role involves warehouse duties, manual handling, and operating forklifts in a busy yard and production environment.

You will follow standard work, use ERP and Kanban processes, and work a Monday- Friday schedule with early start times.

Qualifications

• Hands-on manufacturing experience in a production or warehouse setting.
• Ability to follow time-bound Standard Work.
• Attention to detail and problem solving.
• Counterbalance forklift certificate (valid or in progress).
• Experience with ERP and electronic workflows.
• Able to work in a rotating task environment.
• Excellent verbal communication and teamwork.
• Commitment to safety and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform material flow operations to fulfil stock replenishment and Kanban processes.
• Operate internal machinery to replenish supermarket stock.
• Use forklifts, motorised pallet trucks and other handling methods.
• Follow electronic workflows to maintain stock accuracy and Kanban.
• Load/unload loads from vehicles.
• Adhere to site HSE guidelines.

What is the job?

Running various material and electronic flow operations within our end-to-end value stream to enable the production of finished goods. This is a varied role with many manual handling operations within a yard, light and heavy goods environment.

Monday - Thursday 8am - 4:30pm & Friday 8am - 3:30pm

There are now 22 facilities across the world in 9 countries. Here in Ely, we are responsible for the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.

Where you will be working?

Ourpurpose-built facility isjust 12 miles from Cambridge, within the beautiful mediaeval city of Ely. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.

What we would like you to do/ to see…

• Work safely and follow all site HSE guidelines
• Carrying out multiple material flow processes to fulfil supermarkets, stock replenishment, Kanbans and waste processing.
• Operation of internal machinery in the production of materials to replenish supermarket stock.
• Using various material conveyancing methods such as Forklifts, motorised Pallet trucks and other manual methods.
• Follow electronic work flows to enable material flow, accurate stock control and Kanban maintenance.
• Operate the goods in process, which includes ERP & Kanban electronic processes.
• Loading/unloading various loads from vehicles.

What is essential to us…

• Practical ‘hands on’ approach with experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to follow time bound Standard Work.
• Attention to detail, ability to maintain focus and resolve problems to demonstrate excellent customer service.
• Valid (or working towards gaining) Counterbalance Truck certificate recognized by an accredited training body. Engaging with our supervision programme to enable a safe operation.
• Using ERP and other electronic Workflows. These will use PC, mobile or scanner type equipment.
• Ability to work in a team environment and working on a task rotation basis.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Working collaboratively with other departments.
• Adhering to core values and driven positive attitude
