Job summary

Thorlabs in Ely (UK) is seeking a hands-on warehouse operator to run material flow operations across the end-to-end value stream. The role includes stock replenishment, Kanban maintenance and safe operation of forklifts in a busy yard environment.

You will follow time-bound Standard Work, maintain accurate stock records via ERP workflows and collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth production flow. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on manufacturing experience in a production/warehouse setting.
• Ability to follow time-bound Standard Work accurately.
• Attention to detail and customer service mindset.
• Counterbalance truck certificate (valid or in progress).
• Experience with ERP and electronic workflows (PC/mobile/scanner).
• Team-working and rotating tasks with colleagues.
• Excellent verbal communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Carry out multiple material flow processes to fulfil stock needs.
• Operate internal production materials to replenish supermarket stock.
• Use forklifts, pallet trucks and other manual handling methods.
• Follow ERP/Kanban workflows for material flow and stock control.
• Load and unload varying loads from vehicles.

What is the job?

Running various material and electronic flow operations within our end-to-end value stream to enable the production of finished goods. This is a varied role with many manual handling operations within a yard, light and heavy goods environment.

Monday - Thursday 8am - 4:30pm & Friday 8am - 3:30pm

There are now 22 facilities across the world in 9 countries. Here in Ely, we are responsible for the Motion Control and Optical Tables product line.

Where you will be working?

Ourpurpose-built facility isjust 12 miles from Cambridge, within the beautiful mediaeval city of Ely. There are train and bus links to Ely from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street London, and our site is within distance of Ely train station and Ely Bus station.

What we would like you to do/ to see…

• Work safely and follow all site HSE guidelines
• Carrying out multiple material flow processes to fulfil supermarkets, stock replenishment, Kanbans and waste processing.
• Operation of internal machinery in the production of materials to replenish supermarket stock.
• Using various material conveyancing methods such as Forklifts, motorised Pallet trucks and other manual methods.
• Follow electronic work flows to enable material flow, accurate stock control and Kanban maintenance.
• Operate the goods in process, which includes ERP & Kanban electronic processes.
• Loading/unloading various loads from vehicles.

What is essential to us…

• Practical ‘hands on’ approach with experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to follow time bound Standard Work.
• Attention to detail, ability to maintain focus and resolve problems to demonstrate excellent customer service.
• Valid (or working towards gaining) Counterbalance Truck certificate recognized by an accredited training body. Engaging with our supervision programme to enable a safe operation.
• Using ERP and other electronic Workflows. These will use PC, mobile or scanner type equipment.
• Ability to work in a team environment and working on a task rotation basis.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Working collaboratively with other departments.
