Job summary

Hays are recruiting on behalf of a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Birmingham. An Intermediate or Senior Electrical Design Engineer is sought to deliver electrical building services across a range of projects, from concept through construction, working with BIM teams.

You’ll design electrical systems, produce calculations and documentation, coordinate via Revit, support delivery to programme and budget, and mentor graduates as you progress towards Chartership.

Qualifications

• Experience as Electrical Design Engineer within building services.
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and British Standards.
• Experience on projects in commercial, residential, healthcare, data centre or public sector.
• Proficiency with Amtech and Revit.

Responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Electrical Design Engineer looking to develop their technical expertise and progress within a highly respected consultancy environment.

Your new role

As an Intermediate or Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of electrical building services solutions across a range of projects.Working closely with Electrical, Mechanical and BIM teams, you'll be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from concept design through to construction support.Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing electrical building services systems for a variety of sector‑leading projects.
• Producing calculations, reports, specifications and technical documentation.
• Designing lighting, small power, power distribution, emergency lighting and associated electrical systems.
• Undertaking site surveys and attending project meetings.
• Coordinating designs through Revit and BIM workflows.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams and external stakeholders.
• Supporting project delivery to programme and budget requirements.
• Mentoring graduate and junior engineers where appropriate.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working within a building services consultancy environment and possess a strong understanding of electrical design principles.You will ideally have:

• Experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within building services.
• Knowledge of current UK Building Regulations and British Standards.
• Experience working on projects within commercial, residential, healthcare, data centre or public sector environments.
• Proficiency with:
• Amtech
• Revit
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A desire to work towards or progress Chartership.

For senior‑level applicants, experience leading projects, mentoring engineers and managing client relationships would be advantageous.
