Paul Card Recruitment in Middlesbrough is recruiting a Senior Financial Accountant for a 12‑month fixed-term contract with hybrid working, to cover maternity leave and maintain high-quality technical accounting. You will oversee monthly trial balances, balance sheet reconciliations, assist year-end reporting, statutory accounts and audits, and help improve processes toward automation.

The role includes supervising one staff member and offers 35 hours per week, 1 day work from home, 25 days’

Qualifications

Up to £65,000 | Middlesbrough | Hybrid Working | 12-Month Contract

Are you a Financial Accountant who's ready for more responsibility, but doesn't necessarily want to move away from the technical accounting work you enjoy?

We're recruiting a Senior Financial Accountant for a large, established organisation based in Middlesbrough.

You’ll take ownership of an important area of financial accounting, working alongside experienced colleagues in a sizeable finance team, with the opportunity to influence how things are done.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing monthly trial balances and balance sheet reconciliations, supporting year-end reporting, statutory accounts and the external audit.

You’ll also play an important part in maintaining financial controls, supporting cash forecasting and working with colleagues across group reporting.

But this isn’t just about keeping everything running smoothly.

You’ll have the opportunity to review existing processes, identify improvements and help introduce greater automation, making a difference to how the team operates.

You’ll also supervise one member of staff, giving you the opportunity to build on your supervisory experience without the demands of managing a large team.

So, what experience will you need?

You’ll be an ACA or ACCA qualified accountant, ideally with at least three years’ post-qualified experience, although "qualified by experience" will be consider with a strong background in technical financial accounting.

You’ll be comfortable with UK GAAP, financial reporting and external audits. A knowledge and experience of IFRS would be helpful.

Perhaps you’re already a Senior Financial Accountant, or you’re a Financial Accountant looking for a little more responsibility. Some supervisory experience would be helpful, but your technical accounting skills are what matter most.

This is a financial accounting role rather than management accounting or commercial business partnering, so you’ll need to enjoy the technical side of the profession.

What else should you know?

You’ll earn up to £65,000, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with one day per week working from home.

The position is a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave.

One important point is availability. Our client is looking for someone to start as soon as possible, so we’re particularly interested in accountants who are available immediately or have a notice period of no more than four weeks.
