Job summary

Vivid Resourcing Ltd in Berkshire is seeking a Housing Options Officer to join the housing service on a permanent basis. You will assess housing need, provide clear advice, and work with households to prevent homelessness wherever possible.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing options or homelessness prevention.
• Knowledge of Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience managing a caseload and making statutory decisions.
• Strong interviewing, assessment and negotiation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; handling sensitive conversations.
• Proficient with housing case management systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Carry out housing needs assessments and provide advice to households facing homelessness.
• Deliver homelessness prevention and relief duties under the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Complete statutory homelessness assessments and make legally sound decisions.
• Develop and review personalised housing plans with applicants.
• Arrange and manage temporary accommodation where required.
• Work with private landlords and housing providers to secure suitable accommodation, including private rented sector options.
• Liaise with support services, health, social care and voluntary sector partners to support vulnerable residents.
• Respond to reviews and appeals and support the council’s legal position where challenged.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with data protection and safeguarding requirements.
• Contribute to service development and team performance targets.
