Job summary

Vargo Group is seeking an experienced interim Head of Finance to lead the finance function across three entities from our Cardiff HQ. The role combines statutory reporting, commercial support, controls, cash management and project delivery, reporting into the SMT.

The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day finance activities including payroll, month-end close, and drive systems improvements during a busy interim period.

Head of Finance (Interim)

Location: Cardiff

Salary: Up to £80,000

Contract: Interim

Vargo is supporting a growing group with the appointment of an experienced, hands-on Head of Finance to join the business on an interim basis.

This is a senior finance role cover reporting into the SMT. The successful candidate will provide financial leadership while overseeing the day-to-day running of the finance function across three entities within the group. The role combines financial reporting, commercial support, controls, cash management and finance project delivery.

This is an office-based position, working from the company's HQ.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee monthly management accounts and board reporting across three entities.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and statutory compliance.
• Manage cash flow forecasting.
• Maintain strong financial controls, policies and governance frameworks.
• Oversee corporation tax calculations and submissions.
• Lead the day-to-day finance function, including transactional finance, payroll and month-end close.
• Deliver finance projects, systems improvements, process redesign and wider transformation activity.
• Act as the key finance contact for auditors, banks, advisors and external stakeholders.
• Present financial information clearly to senior leadership and board-level stakeholders.

About you

You will be a qualified accountant with previous experience operating at senior finance leadership level. You'll be comfortable balancing strategic input with hands-on delivery and will have strong technical accounting, reporting, controls and team leadership experience.

This role would suit a Head of Finance, Financial Controller or senior finance leader who can quickly take ownership of a multi-entity finance function and add value during a busy period of cover.
