Job description

Interim Financial Controller - Workday Financials

Contract: 4-Month Project, with potential extension into January

Location: London

Start Date: Late August / Early September

Day Rate: £700-£800 per day, Outside IR35

Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2 days per week in the office, with Thursday as the core team day

A high-growth, PE-backed fintech with a revenue of £60m is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to support a series of business-critical finance projects following the successful implementation of Workday Financials.

Operating one of the UK's leading Fintechs, the business has experienced significant growth and continues to invest heavily in its finance function, technology and operational infrastructure to support its expanding platform and customer base.

Working closely with the Group Financial Controller, you will take ownership of four key accounting and financial control projects, delivering them with a high degree of autonomy while helping to embed scalable, automated processes within Workday Financials.

This is a hands-on assignment for a technically strong accountant who can solve complex accounting challenges, drive process improvements and leverage Workday Financials to deliver sustainable, long-term solutions. The ideal candidate will combine excellent technical accounting expertise with proven Workday Financials experience and the ability to hit the ground running.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of key finance transformation and accounting clean-up projects through to completion including:
    • Lead a benefits and payroll clean-up project, reviewing existing processes, identifying issues and ensuring accurate accounting treatment.
    • Deliver a software capitalisation project, including the accounting treatment of staff costs associated with software development.
    • Lead an asset leases clean-up project, reviewing and reconciling a complex portfolio of approximately 300 laptop leases.
    • Review existing lease accounting, identify discrepancies and ensure the current lease book is accurate and appropriately accounted for.
    • Use the Workday Financials Leases module to develop a more automated and sustainable approach to lease accounting going forward.
    • Complete a balance sheet reconciliation project, establishing robust reconciliation methodologies, tools and processes.
    • Identify opportunities to use Workday Financials functionality to automate and improve balance sheet reconciliation processes.
  • Apply strong technical accounting knowledge to complex problems rather than simply relying on system functionality.
  • Work closely with the Group Finance Controller, taking high-level briefs and independently translating them into practical solutions.
  • Provide additional senior resource and support to the existing finance team during a period of limited capacity.
  • Future-proof processes by identifying opportunities to reduce manual work and maximise the capabilities of Workday Financials.
  • Operate autonomously, taking ownership of deliverables with minimal day-to-day supervision.
To Be Successful
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience operating at Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Senior Finance Manager or a similar level.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Workday Financials (Workday HR experience alone is not sufficient).
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including experience with financial control, balance sheet reconciliations, lease accounting, software capitalisation and finance transformation projects.
  • Self-sufficient, analytical and commercially minded, with the ability to work autonomously, solve complex accounting challenges and deliver projects with minimal supervision.
  • Available to start in late August / early September, commit through to the end of December, and work in the London office two days per week (Thursday being the core team day).

The process is expected to move quickly, with the business keen to identify a shortlist of candidates ahead of interviews during the week commencing 24 August.
