Job summary

Reevr is seeking a Control Systems Engineer in West London to design, develop, test and support PLC and HMI software for bespoke automation and machinery projects. You will work across a multidisciplinary team to ensure reliable and maintainable control software from concept through commissioning.

The role emphasizes designing PLC software, HMI interfaces, and robust documentation, with opportunities to collaborate with Electrical Design, Production, Sales, and Suppliers throughout project

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience developing, modifying and troubleshooting PLC software in an industrial machinery or automation environment.
  • Experience developing and configuring HMI/operator interface systems.
  • A strong understanding of industrial control systems, including sensors, actuators, motor control, safety circuits and machine interlocks.
  • The ability to interpret electrical drawings, I/O schedules and functional specifications.
  • Excellent fault-finding, commissioning and software debugging skills.
  • Strong communication skills across engineering, production and customer-facing teams.
  • A Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems or related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing and maintaining PLC software for bespoke industrial machinery and automation systems.
  • Developing HMI/operator interface screens, including alarms, diagnostics, machine status displays, recipes and user controls.
  • Interpreting electrical schematics, functional specifications, I/O schedules and process requirements to develop robust and maintainable control software.
  • Supporting machine testing, commissioning, customer acceptance and software modifications at in-house or customer sites.
  • Producing and maintaining software documentation, version control and commissioning records.

Are you a Control Systems Engineer with experience developing PLC and HMI software for industrial machinery or automation systems?

We're partnering with a well-established UK engineering manufacturer that designs and builds bespoke industrial equipment for customers worldwide. Due to continued growth, they're looking to expand their Electrical Design team with an experienced Control Systems Engineer.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on technically challenging, custom-built machinery, taking control systems from concept through to commissioning while collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team.

The Role

As a Control Systems Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, testing and supporting PLC and HMI software for bespoke automation and machinery projects. You'll play a key role throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring control systems are reliable, maintainable and delivered to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining PLC software for bespoke industrial machinery and automation systems.
  • Developing HMI/operator interface screens, including alarms, diagnostics, machine status displays, recipes and user controls.
  • Interpreting electrical schematics, functional specifications, I/O schedules and process requirements to develop robust and maintainable control software.
  • Supporting machine testing, commissioning, customer acceptance and software modifications both in-house and, where required, at customer sites.
  • Producing and maintaining software documentation, version control, backups, commissioning records and technical documentation.
  • Collaborating closely with Electrical Design, Production, Sales, Purchasing, suppliers and customers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve software standardisation, diagnostics, reliability and maintainability across existing and future machine platforms.
About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving engineering challenges and developing robust automation solutions.

You'll ideally have:

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • PLC platforms such as Schneider Electric, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Crouzet or similar.
  • PLC programming languages including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram and Sequential Function Chart.
  • Industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, CANopen, OPC-UA and serial communications.
  • Variable speed drives, servo systems, pneumatic control, instrumentation, weighing systems or process control equipment.
  • Machinery safety standards including BS EN 60204-1, IEC 61131-3, BS EN ISO 13849-1 and CE/UKCA requirements.
  • Developing reusable software libraries, diagnostic routines and structured programming standards.
