Job Title: Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Dalston, Cumbria

Working pattern: Monday-Friday – Days based role – 8:30am-5pm.

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience + potential 8% annual bonus + generous pension scheme + 12 flexible days on top of 25-day holiday entitlement + 2 paid volunteering days + other fantastic benefits!

Are you an Instrumentation Engineer looking for an exciting new role within a highly respected company, offering an excellent work life balance?

Nestlé Dalston Factory in Cumbria is the European Centre for cappuccino and creamers producing a range of beverage products.

To make these products we have a highly automated PLC controlled process plant and automated filling and packing lines.

As a site Dalston is continually developing and expanding leading brands such as Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffeemate.

Manufacturing in Nestlé is all about ensuring the consumer receives a perfect quality product, at the right time and place whilst driving losses from our business to maximise efficiency & productivity.

A day in the life of…a Instrumentation Engineer

Working alongside the Instrumentation Calibration Duty Holder, you will be driving improvements in the performance and availability of machinery and assets. You will be directly responsible for 100% calibration of the instruments across site.

The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing TPM processes so it is an exciting time to be involved, there is an expectation that you will play a key part in this.

  • You will be responsible for the calibration / maintenance of instrumentation onsite to ensure we are 100% compliant with food safety standards. Working with instrumentation devices measuring level, Temperature, Pressure and Flow.
  • Responding to breakdowns within the plant, maximising production output and ensuring the smooth flow of the operation.
  • Conducting planned work in Maintenance intervals co-ordinated by yourself and the maintenance planner.
  • Creating and reviewing technical documentation as required e.g., functional data specification, User Requirement Specifications for new equipment, suppliers’ data sheets to ensure that devices are correctly specified and installed.

What will make you successful?

You will have strong engineering ability along with initiative and diligence. Previous experience of instrumentation is essential.

Other requirements for the suitable candidate. Experiences below are desirable unless otherwise stated:

  • Educated to NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in an Electrical or Instrumentation subject and have completed an apprenticeship - Essential
  • Must have experience in PLC programming – Essential
  • Be able to demonstrate an elevated level of competency in Instrumentation.
  • Be able to read Engineering drawings.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or product quality.
  • Experience of hazardous area ratings and installations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Platform would be advantageous.
