Job description

Institutional Outreach Officer

Make a real difference to young people's futures as our Institutional Outreach Officer at Yeovil College. You'll inspire the next generation, raise aspirations and open doors to Higher Education through engaging activities and partnerships across the region. Bring your passion for supporting young people to a varied and rewarding role where you can make a lasting impact.

Working as part of our Higher Education team and the Next Steps South West (NSSW) collaboration, you'll plan, coordinate and deliver engaging outreach activities that encourage more young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to progress into Higher Education. From organising events, university visits and student ambassador opportunities to developing resources, supporting learners and monitoring the impact of activities, you'll see projects through from start to finish. You'll build strong relationships with schools and partner organisations across Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, sharing knowledge and helping young people understand their options, from university applications and student finance to the support available in Higher Education. If you're organised, enjoy working with people and want a role that combines creativity, collaboration and a genuine sense of purpose, this is a great opportunity to make your mark while supporting the continued development of Higher Education at Yeovil College.

What we’re looking for:
  • A passion for raising aspirations and helping young people see the opportunities Higher Education can offer.
  • Confident communication skills to engage with students, schools, colleges, universities and a wide range of partners.
  • Strong organisation and initiative to coordinate activities, visits, resources and events from planning through to delivery.
  • Knowledge of Higher Education including UCAS, student finance, entry requirements and progression routes, or the enthusiasm to develop this knowledge.
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience, with a good standard of written and verbal communication.
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to widening access, supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds to progress into Higher Education.
What we offer:
  • Annual Salary: £27,594
  • Full-time position, 37 hours per week, all year round
  • 30 days holiday (plus Christmas closure & bank holidays)
  • Generous pension scheme of 16.1% employer contributions
  • Staff discount scheme with high street and online retailers
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Free onsite gym
  • Subsidised catering facilities
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Access to free staff parking
