Job summary

The Mercian Trust is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for INSPIRE at Shire Oak Academy in Walsall. You will deliver targeted interventions, support SEMH and safeguarding, and work closely with the IAP Centre Lead to promote inclusive education.

Role requires HLTA status or equivalent, GCSEs in English and Maths, and ongoing CPD in SEND/SEMH. Experience with EHCPs and trauma-informed environments is preferred. Join a community focused on equity and student success.

Qualifications

• HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
• GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
• Evidence of ongoing CPD in SEND/SEMH/communication needs
• Experience working with students with SEMH, anxiety, or communication needs
• Experience leading interventions or small-group learning
• Experience supporting students with EHCPs or support plans
• Experience of working in a trauma-informed and/or attachment-aware environment

Responsibilities

• Teaching and Learning Support: Deliver targeted small group and 1:1 interventions across a range of subject areas and social/emotional needs.
• Student Support and Pastoral Care: Act as a key adult and trusted figure for INSPIRE students.
• Inclusion and Safeguarding: Champion inclusive practice and student voice within the IAP and wider school community.
• Professional Development: Engage in regular CPD linked to SEMH, autism, anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, and inclusive education.
